Replacing spark plugs - what to pay attention to

If you decide to replace the spark plugs on your engine yourself, be prepared to go through a journey consisting of several stages: from dismantling the old spark plug to installing a new one.The main thing in this matter is to remember that this procedure requires delicate handling and the use of special tools.

So, we will describe the step-by-step process of replacing car spark plugs.

1.Before installing new spark plugs, you will first have to dismantle the old ones. Before dismantling, you need to clean the spark plug wells from possible contaminants (sand, oil...) so that all this does not get into the engine cylinders and lead to additional wear, and blow them out with compressed air. Here you need to be very careful, since the result depends on how correctly the previous candle was installed before. In this case, it will get out without any difficulty. If you cannot dismantle it yourself, it is better to seek help from a Technical Service Station.

2. When installing a new car spark plug, it is recommended to carefully and slowly carry out all actions so as not to hit or drop the product.Otherwise, microcracks may form on the ceramic insulator. In addition, as a result of an impact, there is a risk of damaging the side electrode, which will lead to a change in the set gap.All of the listed defects in a spark plug for a car can lead to interruptions in ignition in the engine cylinders.

3.It is also necessary to place parts in spark plug wells with caution. To do this, it is recommended to use a special magnetized spark plug wrench with a lock.It is worth noting that they come in different sizes; you need to choose the appropriate size for the hexagon of the spark plug.

4. You need to screw in the spark plugs manually, without using additional tools. Please note: if the threaded connection is free of damage and contamination, installation will be free and easy.If you need to make an effort to screw it in, it is better to stop and check the installation angle of the car spark plug (without distortions) and the condition of the threads in the cylinder head.In most cases, there is still a certain amount of contamination on the threads of the spark plug hole, so it is recommended to tighten the spark plug in a reciprocating manner - two turns forward, one back, and so on until the spark plug stops in the head of the block, this way the threads of the spark plug hole are cleaned and the spark plug is prevented from jamming.

5. At the final stage, you should tighten the car spark plugs using a torque wrench, clearly controlling the required torque. We also advise you to approach this process with special attention.
